A Zimbabwean man will rue the day he raped his seven year old step daughter after he was slapped with a 20 year jail term by a Masvingo magistrate.
Simon Chiore, 53, was sentenced on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu.
He was initially sentenced to 25 years in prison but five years were suspended on condition of good behavior.
Magistrate Zuyu said Chiore did not waste the court’s time and resources in admitting to the crime but deserves a deterrent sentence, as he had premeditated the crime basing on reasons based known to him.
Prosecutor Moreblessing Rusere told the court that on 14 November this year around 1 pm, the minor was playing at the family homestead with her friend.
Court heard that Chiore then arrived home and chased away his step daughter’s friend from his homestead before dragging his victim into a kitchen hut where he raped her once.
At around 5 pm, the minor’s mother Sarudzai Chisiiwa returned home and noticed that her child was behaving abnormally after asking her to bring some water to drink.
The mother then followed her daughter into the kitchen and found her inspecting her private parts. The girl then revealed what had happened after being questioned.
A police report was made and the girl was taken to Musiso Hospital where a medical examination confirmed the abuse.
