The moment a thief stole a £5,000 diamond ring while he was right in front of a shop assistant has been caught on camera.
The offender left the unsuspecting employee stunned when he bolted from the jewellers with the engagement ring on his little finger after occupying her for 20 minutes.
CCTV footage has now been released by police in a bid to find the thief.
It shows him entering the Warren James Jewellers in Bournemouth, Dorset, and waiting patiently to be seen by a member of staff.
He then asks the assistant if he can look at an 18ct yellow gold solitaire one-carat diamond ring from the display cabinet.
After slipping it onto the little finger of his left hand for size, he carefully examines it using a loupe magnifying glass.
The thief then tells the young woman he wants to put down a deposit for the item, prompting her to start processing the sale.
At that moment, he turns to check his path to the door is clear and runs off wearing the expensive ring, grabbing a bottle of drink that would have yielded his DNA and fingerprints.
The shop assistant attempts to follow him from the shop but to no avail.
