Nasarawa Lawmaker Awards Scholarship To 500 Students


 


The member representing Akwanga South constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), Comrade Kasim M. Kasim, yesterday awarded scholarship to 500 students in his constituency.

Addressing newsmen shortly after presenting the nomination forms to the various communities in his constituency, Kasim said the gesture is in keeping with his campaign promises to further the course of good education among his people.
He stressed that due to the harsh economic realities being faced by parents, training their children in school has increasingly become difficult and almost impossible to others whose children inevitably drop out of school.
The lawmaker who noted that education is the only viable option of addressing social ills and combating underdevelopment, promised to consolidate on the gesture which is expected to be a continuous exercise.
Kasim, Nigeria’s youngest lawmaker who only turned 30, said although he is yet to to paid his statutory constituency allowances alongside other members of the Nasarawa state Assembly, he disposed of his property to service the project.
He said each of the 500 benefitting students shall get the sum of N10, 000 and called on the committee saddled with the responsibility of disbursement to ensure fairness to all students irrespective of politica, religious or tribal affiliation.
“Parents are undergoing gruelling experiences compounded by the fact that workers being owed two to three months salaries and students in all the tertiary institutions in the state going back to school. Touched by the situation I had to make personal sacrifice to ensure thati render assistance in my own humble way” he said.
